LEDs: The Next Wave of Lighting
Conference Overview and Market Review

Strategies Unlimited’s most recent HB LED market review and forecast report concludes that several applications are projected to have growth rates exceeding 50% over the next five years, including backlights for notebook computer displays and LCD TV’s and solid-state lighting.  The total HB LED market is projected to grow at an annual average rate of 29.5% through 2014.

We are pleased to present the third annual LED Japan Conference and Expo. The 2010 event follows upon a great success in 2009, in which attendance at the conference and expo nearly doubled to 5,300.

As we complete the first decade of the 21st century, the outlook for the HB LED market has never been brighter. Although the HB LED market experienced a slowdown in the first half of 2009 due to the worldwide economic recession, the market quickly rebounded in the second half of the year.  Moreover, the long-term fundamentals of the HB LED market remain sound.

We continue to see dramatic improvement in the performance of high-brightness LEDs. These developments are helping to accelerate the adoption of LEDs in a variety of lighting applications and are establishing a path for the ultimate adoption of LEDs in general illumination. A wide variety of new LED lighting products are coming to the market every month, and more and more lighting companies are becoming involved in this fast growing industry.

Our focus for the LED Japan Conference and Expo 2010 is on the developments in HB LED applications, technology and manufacturing that will continue to drive the market forward over the next five years and beyond.  In addition, for the first time in 2010, the LED Japan Conference and Expo will feature an LED lighting track, which will take place on October 1 immediately following the main conference sessions.  This track will examine some of the most pressing issues regarding the use of LEDs in lighting applications.

Innovative LED Driver Solutions for Automotive & Industrial Applications

LEDs are penetrating more and more lighting applications due to their long lifetime, high efficiency and design
flexibility. Nevertheless the LED alone is not able to achieve these advantages under harsh conditions. For high-power LEDs, high system cost often occurs due to over-engineered LED drivers, which is one important factor delaying faster adoption. For low- and mid-power LEDs, the wide use of resistors and discrete solutions does not fulfill severe quality requirements and limits the life time of the LED products.  This presentation will illustrate how the use of innovative LED driver solutions will achieve cost optimization and improve the quality and lifetime of LED light sources in demanding automotive and industrial applications.

SPEAKER:
