Thermal Reliability for LED Lighting Design

Light output and quality of light will degrade over the lifetime of an LED assembly. Several failure mechanisms will determine the mode, rate and extent of degradation. Temperature exposure and temperature induced mechanical stresses are major culprits behind performance degradation. This workshop will explain the physico-chemical nature of these mechanisms. In addition it will address tools to assess and model the robustness of a thermal design. Finally, it will address various solutions that can be used to mitigate thermal degradation.

Dr. Sanjay Misra is the Director of R&D at The Bergquist Company. He has been with Bergquist for 14 years. He has been intimately involved with all aspects of R&D from materials/product development to process improvements and metrology – both hands-on and as a manager. He is the author of 20 peer reviewed articles, over 25 presentations, 11 US patents and several international patents.

Justin Kolbe is currently a Senior R&D Engineer at The Bergquist Company, focusing on the development of new materials and processes for power applications requiring thermal management. He has been with Bergquist for 15 years in development, process development and applications support of insulated metal substrates.
